 Growing Future Leaders 2009-2010

Over ten years ago, Superintendents in North Carolina asked the Partnership for Excellence to create a leadership program designed to:

  • Create a selection process that reflected the demographic makeup of communities,
  • Develop a curriculum based on the High Performance Model and the principles of quality,,
  • Continually evaluate the curriculum, and
  • Ascertain annually the overall effectiveness of such an effort.

From this request came the program now known as Growing Future Leaders.

On October 5 and 6 two groups of educators nominated by their Superintendents began the voyage through this annual program. On Tuesday, October 6, twenty-four educators met at the Central Carolina RESA in Raleigh. On Wednesday, October 7, twenty-eight educators met at the Southeast Education Alliance at James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville.  These fifty-three educators participated in a six hour workshop providing an overview of the High Performance Model with specific focus being placed on the four drivers of that model: Leaders at All Levels, Core Values, Customer Focus and Systems Thinking.  This session will be followed by five three hour sessions during the next six months providing a more in-depth knowledge of the High Performance Model and how to implement it into the classroom, the school or the entire school system. Specific implementation tools for will be taught throughout the course and participants will be expected to being implementing these tools during the months they attend the course. This allows for feedback and assistance with any implementation problems that arise.
